“Guard the good treasure that has been entrusted to you.”
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa Azín has announced his administration’s policy to guarantee parents the right to educate their children based on their faith and beliefs, while explicitly excluding gender ideology and the allowance of sex changes for minors. According to Evangelical Focus, President Noboa signed an official document on March 10 pledging the protection of minors.
The signing followed a meeting with representatives from evangelical Christian churches and organizations (including Indigenous evangelical leaders), the Catholic Church, and the Orthodox Church. President Noboa promised that parents would have the right to educate their children without ideological pressure from the state.
In the document, the Ecuadorian government stated that gender ideology would not be included in educational materials or institutions, and that sex changes for minors would not be permitted. The announcement comes amid growing national debate related to child welfare policies.
On February 16, the political group Frente Integral Republicano Metapolítico del Ecuador (Firme) issued a public statement on its X (formerly Twitter) account, accusing Harold Burbano, Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES), of being “a promoter of transgender infancy” and called for his dismissal.
Minister Burbano denied the accusations, stating that he does not promote transgender children, and emphasized that his stance is rooted in human dignity and the protection of vulnerable people. He also noted that there is no national or international legal, logical, or ethical basis for hormone treatments for children and adolescents.
The following day, on February 17, Education Minister Alegría Crespo also posted a message on X, stating that the government would not implement any measures based on gender ideology.
The controversy followed a ruling by the Constitutional Court, which instructed the Ministry of Education to develop protocols to protect LGBTIQ+ minors from discrimination in schools. The case was triggered by a complaint filed by the family of a Spanish transgender girl who had faced discrimination at a school in Salinas. (Source: Gospel Prayer Newspaper).

God, thank You for turning the complaint of a transgender student into a wake-up call—warning against harmful gender ideologies and opening the way for parents to raise the next generation according to their faith. Please guide President Noboa and Ecuador’s leaders to fully carry out this decision. Let Ecuador become a nation that protects what is beautiful and entrusted by You. May faith and love in Christ be firmly rooted in this land, and may many generations rise up who follow and live by the truth of Your Word.
