》 About Canada
Christianity in Canada began in the early 17th century with the arrival of French settlers in Quebec. Roman Catholicism was introduced, and missionaries carried out evangelism, education, and medical ministry among Indigenous peoples. Under British rule, Protestant denominations such as the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches expanded and became influential in shaping Canadian society through schools, hospitals, and charitable institutions.
Since World War II, secularization has accelerated, leading to declining church attendance and a growing non-religious population. Canada legalized same-sex marriage in 2005, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in 2016, and recreational cannabis in 2018, reflecting significant social and cultural changes.
Today, Canadian churches face the challenge of maintaining a biblical identity in an increasingly secular society. While some denominations have adopted more progressive positions, many evangelical churches continue to emphasize biblical authority, evangelism, discipleship, and community outreach. Once a major missionary-sending nation, Canada is now increasingly viewed as a mission field itself.
》 Scripture Focus
| Habakkuk 3:2-3, 13-19(NIV) 2 LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. 3 God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. 13 You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot. 14 With his own spear you pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding. 15 You trampled the sea with your horses, churning the great waters. 16 I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. 17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments. |
》 Prayer Points
1. The increase in Islamic extremism, caused by multiculturalism, has led to growing fears of foreigners, anti-immigrant sentiment, and racial discrimination within the country. Since the introduction of the Multiculturalism Act in 1988, the Muslim population has grown significantly. Even extremist groups like ISIS have been accepted, and it is predicted that they will become a stronger influence in Canada in the future. Let us pray that the schemes of Satan, who distorts truth under the guise of ‘inclusiveness,’ will be exposed and destroyed. Let us pray that the Church will stand firm in God’s truth without compromise, so that Canada may be filled with only the glory and praise of the Lord.
2. Since the legalization of marijuana in Canada, there has been an alarming increase in drug-related deaths, with an average of 6.4 deaths per day. In 2016, an emergency public health measure was issued in response to deaths caused by the illegal drug abuse epidemic. However, by 2023, a total of 11,807 people had died from drug use, with 93% of those deaths being from overdoses. 71% of the victims were between the ages of 30 and 59, the most active years for ecomic activity. Additionally, 77% of the deaths were male. One of the main reasons for the significant increase in deaths from drug overdose is the widespread use of fentanyl, which can lead to death if even a small amount exceeds the recommended dosage. Let us pray that the Church in Canada may be firmly established in the truth, so that they can lead souls, who are enslaved by Satan and driven to destruction and death, to the light. Let us pray that Canada will find true joy not in temporary pleasures, but rejoice in the eternal joy that comes from the gospel of the Lord.
3. Over the past ten years, there has been a sharp increase in sexually transmitted diseases(STDs), largely due to the reluctance to use contraception, the prevalence of online dating, and a lack of sexual health education. The number of infections from the three most common STDs has reached critical levels, leading to the declaration of a national emergency. Additionally, the number of newborns born with STDs has surged 13-fold over the past four years. Let us pray that the souls in this land will be restored as temples filled with God’s glory through the gospel of the cross of Jesus Christ. Canada is also a country that has legalized euthanasia. Prior to 2012, euthanasia was banned under criminal law, but in June 2012, the Supreme Court ruled that this ban violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Since then, the government has implemented a state-run euthanasia program. In 2023, the Canadian Parliament called for euthanasia to be allowed for minors without parental consent. Let us pray that the schemes of Satan, which lead souls to eternal death, be shattered, and that the gospel of salvation may reach these souls, proclaiming that God, the Creator of life, is their strength.
