》 About San Marino
San Marino is the third smallest country in Europe and is entirely surrounded by Italy. The country began in 301 AD when Saint Marinus and early Christians formed a small community in the mountains to escape persecution by Roman authorities. In 1243, San Marino officially became a republic and is now considered one of the oldest republics in Europe. In 1862, San Marino signed a treaty of friendship with Italy, which recognized its independence within Italian territory. This treaty has been renewed continuously. Though it has faced several threats of conquest, San Marino largely maintained its independence and was internationally recognized in 1815. It became a full member of the United Nations in 1992. San Marino follows a parliamentary system. Its heads of state are two Captains Regent who serve six-month terms and are elected by the legislature. Recently, Denise Bronzetti and Italo Righi were appointed in April 2025, while Francesca Civerchia and Dalibor Riccardi served from October 2024. The current Prime Minister is Luca Beccari.
The economy of San Marino relies on tourism, banking, and manufacturing. Key exports include ceramics, clothing, textiles, furniture, paint, spirits, tiles, and wine. Manufacturing and banking account for more than half of the country’s GDP. San Marino is one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe. It attracts over 4 million tourists annually.
San Marino’s GDP per capita is approximately $60,800.
》 Scripture Focus
| John 4:21-26(NIV) 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.” 22 “You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.” 23 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” 24 “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” |
》 Prayer Points
1. San Marino, a small country surrounded by Italy, has long remained isolated, preserving only Catholic traditions. Although 84% of the population identifies as Catholic, most are nominal believers living secular lives. The number of non-religious people has been growing steadily and now makes up 15% of the population. Let us pray that Catholics in San Marino, who are caught up in worldly and material concerns and do not know the truth, will experience a deep spiritual thirst and return to the Bible. May they read and hear the truth of God’s word, repent, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and be saved.
2. In the past, evangelical Christians in San Marino were imprisoned or exiled for preaching the gospel. Today, although freedom of worship is allowed, evangelicals still make up less than 0.1% of the population. Let us trust in the God who has preserved a remnant in this land and pray that He will visit them again. May the church worship God in Spirit and truth and be renewed through the living word of Jesus Christ. Let us pray that believers will become true witnesses of life who have encountered the Lord, and that their lives will plant seeds of revival in this land.
3. Let us pray that God will send missionaries to San Marino and open the door for the gospel. Though the country appears wealthy and secure, it is spiritually barren and in need of salvation. May the Lord send faithful laborers who will proclaim the gospel of the cross and lead the people of San Marino to salvation. Let us pray that those who are blinded by materialism and cannot see the eternal kingdom will come to know the living God through the testimony of His servants.
