“Britain, join yourself to the LORD and serve Him!”

And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant— (Isaiah 56:6,NIV)

》 About the U.K.

The 16th-century Reformation in Europe influenced England, sparking a church reform movement. In opposition to the Roman Catholic Church and the clergy-dominated system, Henry VIII broke from Catholicism and established the Anglican Church as the state religion. Protestant denominations such as the Baptists, Methodists, and Salvation Army were later born from the Anglican Church. Britain has historically held a central role in Christianity, rich in heritage, and it played a major part in the global spiritual awakening and missionary movements. However, today the Church of England faces a severe crisis. Believers are declining rapidly, churches are closing, and many former churches are now museums, theaters, pubs, cafés, or even converted into mosques. With the spread of liberalism, rising atheism, legalization of abortion and same-sex marriage, and increasing secularism, Christianity’s influence in public life is not only being removed but is even facing reverse discrimination. Yet, there are signs of revival. Evangelical churches are slowly growing, diaspora churches are being planted, prayer movements and Christian unity are spreading, and the next generation is beginning to rise. Now is the time to pray for a renewal of vibrant, gospel-centered churches in the UK.

The U.K. is a trading power and global financial center, with the second-largest economy in Europe after Germany. Over 80% of GDP comes from services, especially finance, with London ranked as the world’s second-largest financial hub. The aerospace industry is also the world’s second-largest, and the pharmaceutical sector ranks tenth globally. Agriculture is highly mechanized and intensive, producing about 60% of the nation’s food with just 2% of the labor force. The economy slowed down in recent years due to Brexit, and the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown caused further decline.
The UK’s GDP per capita is approximately $52,636.

》 Scripture Focus

Isaiah 56:1–7(NIV)
1 This is what the LORD says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed.”
2 Blessed is the one who does this—the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.
3 Let no foreigner who is bound to the LORD say, “The LORD will surely exclude me from his people,” and let no eunuch complain, “I am only a dry tree.”
4 For this is what the LORD says: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast to my covenant—
5 to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever.
6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

》 Prayer Points

1. The Church of England is the mother church for 81.6 million Anglicans worldwide. However, deep theological divisions exist among believers, liberals, and evangelicals, especially over topics like ordaining women and homosexuals, same-sex unions, and ecumenism. Less than 10% attend worship regularly. Christianity is increasingly marginalized in the media and society, and faith is restricted in public life. Many foresee serious persecution ahead. Let us pray that believers will stand firm in faith and that church leaders will speak with biblical clarity. May the church unite in Christ’s cross and remain faithful to Him alone.

2. The U.K. once led global missions, but now many churches have shifted focus to domestic needs. Organizations like Global Connection are reigniting mission vision and uniting churches. Immigrants from various backgrounds, including Muslims and refugees, are renewing and planting churches. Numerous mission groups serve these communities. Let us pray that the missionary passion that began with William Carey continues today, raising new workers. May foreigners in the UK hear the gospel, unite with God, and stir revival through diaspora churches.

3. The next generation in the UK is facing a crisis—mental health issues, teen pregnancy, STDs, online abuse, and rising numbers of transgender youth. Violence in schools and gang exploitation are growing. Ministries like Urban Saints, YFC, and SU are active in schools; Agape, UCCF/IFES, and others serve university students. Missions to international students are also expanding. Let us pray that parents repent and lead their children to faith, raising a generation that fears and loves the Lord.
