Scripture Prayer
1) The Meaning and Goal of Praying with the Word
Satan is the father of lies, and his most powerful weapon is deception. Spiritual warfare is the act of exposing these lies in the light of truth. Therefore, our weapon must be the Word of God, which is truth.
Our battle is a battle of faith. This fight hinges on both the object of our faith—whom we believe—and the content of our faith—what we believe. The outcome depends on these. The war was already won by the Kingdom of God at the cross. To pray with the Word is to pray with faith so that this victory becomes a reality and to declare God’s Word as the final conclusion. The Death of the Self Deals with Desires and the Longing for Solutions. Our old self was never free from the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. But that existential sinner died at the cross. Death does not merely mean the end of physical life. The death that happens at the cross also renders powerless the desires we were obsessed with and the longing to resolve issues by our own strength.
(Galatians 5:24, NIV) Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
(Romans 8:24, NIV) For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
The hope of new life, raised with Christ, is to long for and believe in the glory of the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns. It is a hope that can only be seen through faith.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 1:20,NIV)
Praying with the Word Is Seeking God’s Kingdom and His Righteousness
The hope for the day will be fulfilled when we believe and pray that the Lord’s promise—to return when the gospel of the kingdom is preached to all nations—will be accomplished (Matthew 24:14). Therefore, God’s people pray based on every word of Scripture and give glory to God as His Word is fulfilled.
God delights in such prayers. Eventually, Satan’s kingdom will fall and there will be an end to everything. Prayer is not merely a tool to fulfill personal wishes or solve problems; it is the most powerful weapon that dismantles the power of Satan and brings God’s promises to fulfillment on earth.
Prayer also serves to remind the Lord, who hears us (Isaiah 62:6–7). It is bringing God’s covenant back before Him in faith. The place of prayer is a sacred space where His promises are believed afresh. And when we pray with such faith, we witness God’s power making His Word fulfilled in our lives and throughout the nations.
(Ephesians 6:13–17,NIV) 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
God’s full armor is truth, righteousness, the gospel, and the Word of God. When His Word takes root in our hearts, it becomes a powerful weapon to destroy Satan. Trusting in God and believing in His Word is the only way to win spiritual battles. Let us now sit before His Word and pray using every promise given for the revival of His kingdom and the fulfillment of His mission. Saying “amen” to every word of His covenant is the incredible secret of prayer—through it, His Word becomes reality among the nations. Pray, and God will fulfill His Word.
Scripture Prayer Makes Church Unity a Reality
One of the most important aspects of corporate prayer is having a shared focus that all believers and churches can unite around. As long as we pray only for personal breakthroughs or desires, true unity is impossible. But when the Church prays in faith based on God’s Word, we come to see that our prayers are united in Christ. Scripture prayer becomes the real means by which churches, even when separated geographically, can stand together in united prayer.
What Is Scripture Prayer?
Scripture prayer is the prayer of all believers who long for the revival of God’s kingdom and the completion of the Great Commission, trusting that God’s will shall be fulfilled. Led by the Holy Spirit, they seek God’s will through His Word. The greatest strength and beauty of this type of prayer is that it fosters unity. Just as puzzle pieces come together to complete a picture, we gather to meditate on and share God’s Word. As prayers are lifted up together, His will becomes clear and is pursued in faith.
Because Scripture prayer is a united prayer based on the Word, personal tongues-speaking should be refrained. Everyone has a role for the united prayer: the Prayer Leader (PL) leads the prayer, the Worship Leader (WL) leads worship, and the rest are prayers (P) who join in prayer.
》Prayer Order
1)Worship and Prais
2)Reading and Meditating on the Word
3)Sharing
4)Praying with the Word
After meditation, all participants share the Word and the heart of God they received, and then pray together in one voice. After praying thoroughly based on the Scripture, each person takes turns praying in an orderly manner, trusting and letting the Holy Spirit to lead. The PL presents prayer topics for a united group prayer, which continues until there is a shared conviction that the Word has been fully prayed through. The session ends with thanksgiving and praise to God who will fulfill His Word, followed by worship or a closing prayer, and then the Lord’s Prayer.
2) Practicing Scripture Prayer
After meditating on the following Scripture, Let us pray according to the Word.
》Scripture Prayer
(Daniel 9:2, 4–6, 16–17, 23,NIV) 2 In the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. 4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: “Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,” 5 “we have sinned and done wrong; we have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.” 6 “We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.” 16 Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill; our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us. 17 Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant; for your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; therefore, consider the word and understand the vision.
》Pray that the Word may become the Conclusion.
1. God made promises through His Word, and the reason for His covenant is His love. And He is faithful to His covenant because He His faithful. God, who is faithful, remains faithful to His covenant. Let us confess that we still commit the same sins of our ancestors and people who turned away from God’s laws and statutes, and plead with Him to withdraw His wrath from the world according to the justice and mercy of the cross. Let us pray that the Lord would shine His face upon the Church, His body, so that it may fully reflect the glory of Christ.
2. The most complete and accurate prayer—the one aligned with God’s heart—is to pray with the words of His covenant that reveals His will and desire. Let us earnestly pray that the Church, entrusted with the life and role of an intercessory priest, will remember God’s covenant and be established as a house of prayer for all nations where people ceaselessly cry out to Him.
