“Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1:32, NIV)
Sinners not only commit sins but also attempt to justify their actions by leading others into sin, seeking mutual approval in wrongdoing. Across the globe, misguided education on sexuality is spreading unchecked, undermining the created order, harming families, and destabilizing society. Around 30 countries have legalized same-sex marriage, and a culture of social acceptance for homosexuality has taken root. This confusion around gender identity and sexual orientation is now influencing the education of the next generation.
According to a 2020 Global Youth Culture survey conducted by OneHope, an international Christian mission organization for children and youth, nearly half (45%) of the 8,394 teenagers aged 13 to 19 from 20 countries held the traditional belief that gender is biologically determined at birth. However, the remaining half (50%) believed that gender is chosen based on personal feelings or sexual attraction. Ten percent of global youth reported experiencing gender identity confusion within the past three months, and 15% said they would feel more like themselves if they were a gender different from their current one. When asked whether it is acceptable to alter their bodies to match a different gender, 42% responded “yes.”
In 2010, the state of California in the U.S. passed SB48, a law requiring public school textbooks
from kindergarten through high school to include information on the political, economic, and social contributions of homosexual and transgender individuals. In 2015, they enacted AB329, the California Healthy Youth Act, making it mandatory for all public schools to provide instruction on homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender topics. Then in 2019, the state of New Jersey passed a law requiring public schools to include LGBT history in their curriculum.
In the United Kingdom, the Department for Education implemented the Relationships, Sex, and Health Education (RSHE) guidelines, which took effect in September 2020. These guidelines require all schools to comply with the Equality Act, prohibiting discrimination based on homosexuality, bisexuality, or gender transition. According to statistics from the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), the number of children and adolescents under 18 seeking gender transition treatment rose from 77 in 2009 to 2,590 in 2019—an increase of more than 33 times.
In Korea, a student rights ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy or childbirth was first enacted in Gyeonggi Province in 2010, and has since been implemented in Gwangju (2011), Seoul (2012), Jeonbuk (2013), Chungnam (2020), and Jeju (2020). Other regions have adopted similar measures under different names: Chungbuk (Education Community Charter), Incheon (Korean Citizen Rights Ordinance), and Daegu (Education Rights Charter). According to data from Korea’s 2021 Health and Medical Big Data Open System, out of 1,707 patients who visited medical facilities due to dissatisfaction with their biological sex (medically termed gender identity disorder), nearly half (823) were teenagers. The youngest reported case was a 9-year-old girl.
In a statement urging the end of sex education based on what it called abnormal gender ideology, the Korea Women’s Coalition for Human Rights said the concept of “gender” was first introduced by American psychologist Dr. John Money in the 1960s. He argued that sex is not innate, but something acquired through upbringing and socialization. The group also noted that some modern gender theories now claim there are as many as 71 genders. They warned that this so-called gender ideology, which they believe undermines biological sex, is causing real harm. What is especially concerning, they said, is how deeply these ideas have entered public education, shaping the minds of children and teenagers before their values are even fully formed.
》Prayer Points
1. Children and youth around the world have long been exposed to a culture that encourages homosexuality. As a result, it is increasingly accepted in their thoughts, emotions, and values. Let us pray that the influence of media, entertainment, internet content, and education that promotes homosexuality will be broken, and the youth will be protected from it.
2. Let us pray for the governments and education systems of nations around the world, and ask that the powers of darkness working through laws and systems that promote confusion about sexual orientation and gender identity will lose their grip. Let us also pray that parents will be equipped with the truth of the gospel and stand firm in faith across politics, society, culture, and education, so that they can protect the next generation from evil influences and teach them the truth of God’s Word.
》Scripture Prayer
(Proverbs 16:1–10,NIV) 1 To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue. 2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. 4 The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster. 5 The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished. 6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided. 7 When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them. 8 Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice. 9 In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. 10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle, and his mouth does not betray justice.
》Pray that the Word may become the Conclusion.
1. We cannot deny that the broken and devastated next generation reflects our own sinfulness—living as we please, far from the path of life. Let us stand against Satan in the name of Jesus Christ, who deceives children and youth with false ideologies about homosexuality and gender identity. Before God, who searches our hearts, we must confess that we have arrogantly flaunted sinful desires and rebelled against our Creator who made us male or female only. Let us repent and return to Him.
2. God created everything for its proper purpose. In these evil days, when even the foundation of male and female is being attacked, let us pray that God would use even the actions of the wicked to awaken the church. Let the church rise in spiritual warfare through prayer. Let us pray that the church would faithfully proclaim the gospel of the cross, where sin is defeated through mercy and truth according to Scripture, and that the world would turn from evil by learning to fear the Lord.
