He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. (Colossians 1:28, NIV)
God is seeking a new generation that will transform the world. A generation restored by the gospel will silence their enemies and usher in a new move of God. Yet, this great hope of God’s kingdom, is now facing the risk of disappearing as the largest unreached group in the world, having failed to bear fruit. How can we raise up a generation of faith in Korea and the world steeped in extreme humanism and a success-driven ideology? As concerns grow over the collapse of the public educational system, there are those who are taking faithful steps—led by a sense of divine calling—to rescue and restore the next generation.
To meet this need, many alternative schools have been established, and it is estimated that over half were founded by Christian communities. According to the 4th Christian Alternative School Survey published by the Christian Alternative Schools Research Institute in 2021, there are currently 313 Christian alternative schools in Korea—an increase of 48 schools compared to five years ago. Over the past 15 years, the number of such schools grew rapidly: from 43 in 2006 to 121 in 2011 and 265 in 2016. However, growth has slowed in the last five years.
Hebron Mission School (Principal: Cho Wan-soon), founded in 2013, is an educational institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation of faith, targeting students from 4th grade in elementary school through 12th grade in high school. At a school orientation session, Chairman and missionary Kim Yong Ui stated, “Hebron in the Bible was a significant place of faith for Abraham, Caleb, and David. We aim to raise individuals like them who will serve this generation.” Principal Cho added, “Many foreign missionaries who came to Korea dedicated their lives to the Lord and decided to become missionaries during their teenage years. We believe that now, when the gospel has deeply taken root in this land, it is time to raise up a new generation of missionary dreamers.
The school places worship, the Word, and prayer at the heart of its curriculum, using the Bible as the textbook to teach students a faith where the Word becomes real in their daily lives. It also offers instruction in biblical languages such as Hebrew and Greek to cultivate a generation with a deeper understanding of Scripture.
At a student camp, Kim, an 18-year-old 11th grader from Hebron Mission School (as of 2014), asked a heartfelt question: “Even if you’re bullied at school, don’t own a cool smartphone, or fail to get into a prestigious university—can Jesus alone truly be enough?” He then declared with conviction, “For me, the gospel is enough.” Having dropped out of a traditional high school to attend Hebron School, he added, “I may not be able to explain it logically, but I am living proof—a completely new person transformed by the gospel.”
Hebron Mission School graduates are commissioned as missionaries under the name “Valiant Warriors.” These brave elite soldiers are those who walk paths never taken before, relying solely on God’s Word. They are not just courageous—they are “specialists in obedience”, fully trained to follow Christ.
In obedience, these graduates continue to step forward, advancing to become vessels for the gospel among the nations—even if it means becoming the world’s “prey” for Christ’s sake.
》Prayer Points
1. The purpose of Christian schools is to raise the next generation firmly and wholly in the truth. May students grow up living according to God’s Word—in school and in everyday life—and boldly declare, “The gospel is enough!” Let us pray that witnesses will arise who make that confession.
2. In Korea and all over the world, the number of Christian alternative schools is increasing to support next-generation faith. Let us pray that these schools become training centers where students are grounded in the Bible, nurtured by the gospel and prayer, and molded into faithful, courageous “Valiant Warriors.”
》Scripture Prayer
(Proverbs 24:11–20,NIV) 11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done? 13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. 14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. 15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous; do not plunder their dwelling place, 16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. 17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, 18 or the Lord will see and be displeased and turn his wrath away from them. 19 Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, 20 for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
》Pray that the Word may become the Conclusion.
1. In every era, there’s a spiritual battlefield where the Church and Satan contend fiercely. When the next generation faces danger or spiritual death, the Church and schools must fight for them with everything they have until victory. Let us pray that the gospel of Jesus Christ, victorious on the cross, is firmly established in the next generation so they may joyfully serve and triumph in the Lord’s power.
2. The righteous may fall seven times, but God’s grace raises them up again. Let us thank Him for granting this grace to His people, the Church. Now is the time for all generations, including the next generation, to unite and advance toward the ends of the earth to finish the Great Commission. Let us pray that the Church—the one body in Christ—will not stand back, weary or lukewarm, but rise with the young generation as valiant warriors , pressing on until final victory.
