“LORD, repeat Your deeds in our days and make them known.”
The proportion of young adults in England who believe in God has risen sharply in recent years, signaling a significant spiritual shift, Christian Today UK reported on the 18th.
A YouGov survey found that 37 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds now say they believe in God, more than double the 16 percent recorded in August 2021. At the same time, the number identifying as atheists in this group has fallen dramatically, from 49 percent to 32 percent.
The Bishop of Lancaster, Rt Rev Jill Duff, told The Telegraph, “This doesn’t surprise me. It’s exactly what we are seeing in our churches. Young people are showing a real openness to God, to Christianity, and even to the supernatural. It’s a clear sign of spiritual awakening.”
While the survey did not specify particular religions, it highlighted a broader rise in spiritual openness among younger generations. The share of 18- to 24-year-olds who said they believe in no God or higher power fell from 19 percent in 2022 to just 12 percent.
Among 25- to 49-year-olds, 25 percent reported belief in God — a slight increase from 22 percent in 2019, though lower than the 33 percent earlier this year. For those aged 50 to 64, faith levels have remained steady at about 27 percent over the past six years. Among those over 65, the proportion has slipped slightly, from 35 percent in 2019 to 32 percent today.
Experts have described this trend as a “quiet revival,” though they caution that time will tell whether it develops into lasting renewal or proves only temporary. (Source: Gospel Prayer Newspaper, Edited Version)
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. (Habakkuk 3:2,NIV)
God, in the UK, many have turned from You, carried away by waves of secularism and humanism. Yet we thank You for the good news that young people are seeking You with thirsty hearts. We pray that the church would share Jesus Christ, the source of living water, so that they may experience the power of the gospel and live in victory by faith. May these young believers, restored by Your truth, spark an awakening across generations and bring a true revival, as we wait with hope for the day of the Lord.
