[Venezuela] U.S. Military Arrests Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro; Evangelical Leaders Call for Prayer

all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other

The United States military carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela early Saturday morning, January 3 (local time), resulting in the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, U.S. officials announced.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that Maduro was transferred to the United States and will stand trial in New York on extensive federal criminal charges, according to an unsealed indictment.

The indictment accuses Maduro of conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that these crimes directly targeted the United States.

President Donald Trump, speaking at a press conference, said the United States has intercepted 97 percent of drugs entering the country by sea, noting that a significant portion originated from Venezuela. “The United States will manage Venezuela until a safe, proper, and careful transition takes place,” Trump said. “We do not want a repeat of the past.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Maduro as “an illegitimate president and a fugitive from U.S. justice,” stating that Maduro had repeatedly been offered “very generous deals” but rejected them, leading to the current outcome.

International reactions were sharply divided. Western nations, including the United Kingdom and France, welcomed what they described as the end of a dictatorship while expressing concern over the use of military force. China, Russia, and Iran condemned the operation as a violation of Venezuelan sovereignty and international law.

Following news of Maduro’s arrest, large crowds filled public squares and major roads in Caracas and other cities, celebrating what many described as the fall of the authoritarian regime. Venezuelan expatriate communities in Miami and Madrid also gathered for overnight celebrations, according to reports from the Associated Press and Reuters.

Evangelical leaders in Venezuela and abroad responded cautiously, urging prayer and restraint amid ongoing uncertainty.

José Rivero, president of the H2D Foundation and based in the United States, said, “The situation is extremely complex, and we need wisdom from Heaven to navigate what lies ahead.” He called for continued prayer for Venezuela during the unfolding events.

The Evangelical Confederation of Colombia (CEDECOL) urged churches and believers to unite in prayer, asking that “God would govern Venezuela and grant freedom, peace, justice, and restoration.”

Aristóteles López, founder of the March for Jesus movement in Venezuela, described Maduro’s arrest as “God’s intervention and the fulfillment of justice for a nation that has suffered for years.” However, he emphasized that the situation is not yet resolved and called for sustained prayer to endure the coming season.

The case remains ongoing, and observers say the outcome will serve as a critical test of Venezuela’s future, regional stability, and the protection of freedom and justice in the nation.(Source : Christian Post, Edited Version)

And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need,  so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other.(1 Kings 8:59-60, NIV)

God, we entrust to You this land of Venezuela, which now stands at a new crossroads as Maduro—who ruled through harsh oppression and politics of fear—has been arrested, drawing both celebration and criticism. In this moment, cause the souls who hunger and thirst for righteousness to give heed to the word of truth proclaimed through Your servants, and awaken Your people to pray earnestly so that true freedom and justice may be restored in Venezuela. May those who seek the LORD day and night experience Your gracious hand, which provides for every need, and come to know that there is no god besides You. Let them proclaim the gospel of salvation to all the peoples of the world.
