Truly he is my rock and my salvation.
Less than a week after a coal mine explosion in Colombia killed nine workers, another similar mining accident has claimed the lives of four miners, according to a May 11 report by Yonhap News citing AFP and other sources. The explosion occurred on the afternoon of May 9 at the Las Quintas coal mine in the city of Cucunubá, located in Cundinamarca Department, Colombia. Jorge Emilio Rey, governor of Cundinamarca, said on social media that all four workers trapped inside the mine were found dead. Local media reported that the miners were believed to have been working about 500 meters underground at the time of the accident.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion, with methane gas buildup inside the mine considered a likely factor. Experts have pointed out that some coal mines in Colombia continue to operate under poor working conditions, including outdated equipment and inadequate ventilation systems, leading to repeated accidents. Earlier, on May 4, another coal mine explosion in the same department of Cundinamarca killed nine miners and injured six others. Both accidents took place in mining towns located about 17 kilometers apart. (Source: Gospel Prayer News, Prayer 24·365, Edited version)
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2, NIV)
God, we look to You as another coal mine explosion has taken the lives of miners in Colombia. Lord, please comfort the families who have lost their loved ones. Surround them with Your mercy and peace in the midst of sorrow. We pray that the poor and dangerous working conditions in these mines would quickly be improved, and that more lives would not be lost in the same way again. In the middle of fear and tragedy, may the people of Colombia recognize the limits of human strength and turn to You, the true Savior and firm foundation of our lives. Lead the souls of this land not to live for things that pass away, but for the eternal kingdom of God. Raise them up as Your people who trust in You alone.
