[Nigeria] International Christian Concern: “Nigerian Government Turning a Blind Eye to Systematic Violence Against Christians”

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.

International Christian Concern(ICC), an international Christian human rights organization, recently criticized the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria, stating in a new report that the attacks continue amid government negligence and systemic failure. According to the report, armed Fulani militias, Boko Haram, and Islamic State West Africa Province have carried out killings, kidnappings, and arson attacks targeting churches and Christian villages. ICC argued that the violence is not merely a series of isolated clashes, but rather “a strategy of displacement through terror.” The organization further accused the Nigerian government of repeatedly responding too slowly despite prior warnings, while failing to properly prosecute those responsible after arrests are made.

ICC also criticized the international community for interpreting the violence primarily through the lens of climate change or land disputes, insisting that Christian communities are in fact being deliberately and disproportionately targeted. The group called on the United States and Western governments to expand international investigations, impose sanctions, and strengthen protection and humanitarian support for affected communities and displaced people. At the same time, some experts argued that the crisis in Nigeria cannot be explained solely as religious persecution, noting that ethnic tensions, economic instability, and broader security issues are also deeply intertwined. They added that the characterization of the situation as a “genocide of Christians” remains a matter of debate. (Source: Christian Today, Edited version)

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me. “Though you were ruined and made desolate and your land laid waste, now you will be too small for your people, and those who devoured you will be far away. (Isaiah 49:16,19 NIV)

God, even as the nation turns a blind eye to the relentless violence and persecution against Your people in Nigeria, we come before You and we trust that You have not. You have engraved them on the palms of Your hands. You have not forgotten them. May Your mercy and faithful presence be the very source of their strength and comfort. In the midst of devastation, desolation, and destruction, hear the cries and prayers of Nigerian believers who call upon Your name, and bring Your salvation swiftly upon the land. Even in the midst of suffering, may the church remain steadfast in faith, and through them may the mighty work of the Gospel move across the nation, until all people would come to praise and worship You, Lord.
