Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?
Swedish social services are facing growing controversy over allegations that they have kept two Romanian Christian sisters separated from their parents for more than three and a half years and are now pursuing their adoption despite no evidence of parental abuse being found.
According to CBN News, Sara Samson and Tiana Samson were taken into state care after Sara, who was 10 years old at the time, allegedly made a false report of abuse because her parents would not allow her to use a smartphone or wear makeup.
The parents say Sara soon admitted that her allegations were false, and prosecutors found no evidence of abuse. Nevertheless, they claim the authorities have continued to keep both girls in state care.
The parents also say the sisters have suffered severe emotional and psychological trauma while in foster care. During a video call, Sara said social services had “destroyed” her life and pleaded to return to her family. Tiana likewise begged to be taken home. The parents dispute the authorities’ reported claim that the girls do not want to see them, insisting that both daughters have repeatedly expressed their desire to be reunited with their family. They further allege that Swedish authorities are now moving forward with plans to place the sisters for adoption.
The case has also become a diplomatic issue between Romania and Sweden. Thousands of people have taken part in demonstrations across Romania calling for the sisters’ return, and the Romanian Senate has adopted a resolution urging that the girls be immediately reunited with their parents.
The parents further allege that social services cited the family’s regular church attendance as evidence of “religious extremism.” However, the Swedish authorities have not publicly provided a detailed official response to these allegations, and their position has yet to be fully verified. Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you? (Deuteronomy 32:6, NIV)
God, have mercy on the situation in Sweden, where children long to return to their parents yet are reportedly facing adoption instead. Rebuke the authorities who, under the name of welfare, are tearing apart the family You have established. Grant them wisdom and discernment, and may these children be reunited with their parents without delay. Lord, this generation has lost sight of Your glory and call the worship of You “religious extremism.” Open their eyes to know You as their Creator and Father. Restore this nation through the power of the gospel, and establish its families and the next generation firmly in Christ, so that they may grow to know, love, and follow You.
