Concerns are growing that blasphemy accusations in Pakistan are being exploited not only as a religious issue but also as part of an organized profit-making scheme. According to International Christian Concern (ICC), the so-called “blasphemy business network” primarily targets religious minorities, including Christians and Hindus. The network allegedly monitors victims’ activity on social media or lures them into carefully planned entrapment schemes before accusing them of blasphemy and demanding money. Some victims were reportedly drawn into group chats or manipulated into fabricated situations that led to blasphemy charges. Allegations have also emerged that certain officials within law enforcement agencies cooperated with the scheme by demanding bribes from the accused. Blasphemy accusations have often resulted in mob violence, the destruction of homes and property, and forced displacement. More recently, claims have surfaced that individuals linked to hardline Islamist groups have also been involved in these operations. Although Pakistani authorities have acknowledged reports of organized networks seeking financial gain through false blasphemy accusations and have launched investigations, little meaningful progress has been made. As blasphemy cases continue to rise, ICC warned that threats, intimidation, and extortion are increasing as well, stating that “blasphemy has become its own business sector in Pakistan.” (Source: Gospel Prayer News, Edited version)

God, we ask You to destroy every evil scheme that exploits Pakistan’s blasphemy laws to persecute religious minorities for personal gain. Humble those who seek unjust profit before You. Turn them from sin and lead them to the saving grace of the cross, where they may be justified through faith in Jesus Christ. Strengthen the churches in Pakistan that suffer under false accusations and unjust verdicts. Keep them from fear and help them stand firm in Christ, bearing the fruit of life. May the gospel of peace spread swiftly throughout Pakistan. Let false accusations and conflict come to an end, and fill the nation with the joy that only You can give.
