》 About Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was discovered by Columbus in 1498. Control of the land was disputed by Britain and France until the Treaty of Paris in 1762, which gave control over to Britain. Although France briefly took over in 1770, the Treaty of Versailles in 1883 officially incorporated it into British territory. The Grenadine Islands were split in 1791, with some going to Grenada and others to Saint Vincent. The island’s economy grew upon sugar, coffee, cotton, and cocoa, which relied on enslaved labor to farm. After slavery was abolished in 1834, Portuguese and South Asian workers were brought in to offset the influence of Black laborers. When the West Indies began pushing for independence in 1975, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also gained independence in 1979. As part of the British Commonwealth, the British monarch remains head of state, while Ralph Gonsalves has served as Prime Minister since 2001.
The economy is mainly based on agriculture and tourism, with improvements thanks to steady growth in tourism, the financial sector, and a recovery in banana production. However, for continued growth, the country needs to diversify by developing manufacturing and expanding its tourism infrastructure. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also has a small offshore financial sector and is known as a producer of marijuana and a transit point for drugs from South America. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ GDP per capita is approximately $12,100
》 Scripture Focus
2 Peter 3:10-14, 18(NIV) 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. |
》 Prayer Points
1. Let’s give thanks that evangelical churches in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are still collaborating strongly and that a cross-denominational prayer movement is underway. However, due to rapid secularization, spiritual apathy is growing, and most people do not have a personal relationship with God. Many residents face challenges to holiness, as some turn to illegal marijuana farming as a means to escape poverty. Since many pastors work other jobs, churches urgently need leaders who can teach the Word and disciple others. Pray that the churches in this land will focus on the promise of a new heaven and new earth in righteousness, standing before the Lord. Let us pray for pastors to live in holiness and devotion, to long for the Lord, and for their relationship with Him to be restored so they can spread the Gospel of life with strength.
2. Let us pray for churches to be established on the small, isolated Grenadine islands, where the natural isolation has made access to churches challenging. May the Lord raise witnesses who teach the truth according to Scripture and live out obedient faith. Pray that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines may grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, sharing in His glory.

》 About Turks and Caicos Islands
The Turks and Caicos Islands became a British colony in 1783 and were placed under the jurisdiction of the Bahamas and Jamaica. When the Bahamas gained independence in 1973, Turks and Caicos obtained the status of a British Overseas Territory. The head of state is the British monarch, and Washington Misick has served as the islands’ Prime Minister on a five-year term since 2021.
The economy relies on tourism, offshore financial services, and fishing. Most capital goods and food for local consumption are imported, and over three-quarters of the one million annual tourists come from the United States. Turks and Caicos is well-known as a “tax paradise,” where, like the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda, neither income nor corporate taxes are levied. This has attracted over 10,000 registered corporations, primarily banks, insurance firms, and trust companies. Instead of direct taxes, the government funds itself through corporate registration fees, offshore finance charges, and a 30% duty on all imports. In 2017, Hurricane Maria caused widespread power and communication outages and significant damage to homes and businesses. Turks and Caicos Islands’ GDP per capita is approximately $21,100
》 Prayer Points
1. The Turks and Caicos Islands face several social issues, including money laundering in offshore finance, illegal drug trafficking, and moral challenges from a booming tourism industry. Despite economic growth, 25% of the population lives in poverty. Among the Christian population, 26% are unregistered nominal believers. However, there is hope, as 32% of the population identifies as evangelical Christians. Let us pray for a revival through these believers, that the church may have a spiritual awakening. May they place their hope not in temporary things, but realize that all things will ultimately pass away. Let us pray for the church to stand firm in the true and eternal Word, holding hope in Christ’s return. May the church in the Turks and Caicos become a bride prepared, longing for the day of God’s coming with holy conduct and godliness.
