The Heart lies with one’s relied upon ‘Treasure’.
The Heart: The Foundation of Faith. The Gospel can only be enjoyed by faith. The Bible says, “The righteous will live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Philippians3:9). The faith that the Bible refers to is not just an intellectual agreement or understanding of the gospel but believing with your heart (Romans 10:9 -10). Faith is not a mere thought but a real occurrence in the heart of a person. Therefore, the heart is foundation of faith. If so, then what does it mean to believe with your heart? It refers to an unwavering heart directed toward the object of faith. It means to only love him. That means the heart has come to a point where there is no other possibility or room for anything else. The Bible express that this kind of heart is a “steadfast heart” (Psalm 57:7), “undoubting heart” (Mark 11:23, Luke 24:38, Romans 4:20, James 1:6), “pure heart” (Acts 15:9, 2 Timothy 2:22, Titus 1:15), “same spirit of faith” (2 Corinthians 4:13), “clean heart” (1 Timothy 1:5), and “true heart” (Hebrews 10:22). In this same way, if we have chosen the object of our faith, the success of our faith lies on the heart, which is the foundation of our faith. Do you believe in the gospel? If so, then we must look within our own hearts. |
People Will Pay Any Price to Fulfill the Desires of Their Hearts.
People give their heart to anything that they feel is important, whatever the cost may be. People do not grow tired or become wearied to achieve the things they desire. If a person were to put all his worth into his own wealth, that person would work 24 hours in order to earn money. Tall mountains, the deepest seas, or the driest deserts are not able to stop humans from trying to achieve their goals. In this way, God has created people as beings who wholeheartedly pursue what they desire. Therefore, if someone truly desires from the heart, there’s nothing too difficult or impossible for them.
But why is it that people do not show the same passion, especially towards the Truth, God, Jesus, the Cross, or heaven? The reason is because the heart wants things other than Jesus Christ. In other words, they do not want Jesus Christ with all their heart. Think about it, do we want Jesus to become Lord over us in the most important points in our lives? Do we want his words, his values, and his will and his Kingdom to take control over our hearts? If not, what is the thing that you consider the most important? There is no middle line. This is why the faith we profess and the lives that we live are different.
Luke 12:34 says your heart is where your treasure is. Our hearts are where our treasures are. Our hearts lies with the things we consider valuable. We trust that “treasure.” In other words, that “treasure” is our object of faith. Consequently, our hearts are with what we believe and trust. God allows people to see the “true treasure” that is inside their hearts.
People want to place many treasures in their hearts according to their greed. Not only money, honor, and things of the world, but spiritual and religious values can become treasures as well. People’s hearts must choose God only as their object of faith but the problem is that a sinner’s corrupted heart does not want that.
Jesus revealed that the true treasure in the heart of the rich young man was not “eternal life,” but rather was “money.” Similarly, God provides the circumstances and conditions to reveal the objects of faith in the heart. Will you turn away with a troubled heart like the rich young man, or will you submit before the Word and seek grace?
》Prayer Topic
Let us think about what our “true treasure” is, and what was the price we have paid in order to gain this treasure. And let us also ask ourselves if this treasure is eternal. If that treasure is not eternal, let us ask God to show us the eternal treasure.
》Scripture Prayer
(John 12:4-6) “But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.”
(Matthew 26:1-2) “When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.””
(Matthew 26:14-16) “Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went over to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.”
》Pray that the Word may become the Conclusion.
1. Judas, who was Jesus’ disciple, heard all of Jesus’s teachings and saw all his miracles. But he sold him for just thirty pieces of silver. Jesus said one day, he will die on the Cross like a sinner. Different from the messiah Judas wanted, he did not want nor accept Jesus as his object of faith. Through this tragedy, Judas lost the true treasure, Jesus, for eternity. Our hopes and expectations in Jesus should be completely fulfilled at the Cross. Let’s pray that many believers seek not the treasures they desire in attending church but solely believe with their whole hearts in Jesus Christ, the life given by God for salvation.
And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will full this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. (Haggai 2:7)
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
2. What is the most important value in your heart? What is the thing that you adore most with all your heart? What is the value truly that moves you? My confession of faith should honestly reflect what my heart truly desires. Let’s earnestly examine if it aligns with the Gospel of Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross and decide to believe in the Gospel wholeheartedly.”
For he is like one who is inwardly calculating. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. (Proverbs 23:7)
