Abortion and Gun Ownership, Permitted Under the Guise of Freedom and Human Rights, Become the Leading Causes of Death
In 1964, the United States enacted the Civil Rights Act, limiting anti-discrimination protections to five categories: race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. Over time, additional laws have been introduced to address various forms of discrimination, with slight differences in application depending on the specific context.
Abortion was legalized in 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that a woman’s right to abortion was protected under the Constitution, allowing the procedure up to six months into pregnancy. In 2021, abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide, with approximately 42.6 million cases, surpassing all other causes of mortality combined. In the United States, it also ranked as the number one cause of death in 2017, with 862,320 cases, exceeding deaths from heart disease, which accounted for 647,457 fatalities.
In 2009, anti-discrimination laws were expanded to include protections based on gender identity and sexual orientation. In 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage. In 2021, New York State passed the Gender Recognition Act, allowing an “X” designation as a third gender on driver’s licenses. Additionally, birth certificates for children of same-sex parents were modified to replace “father” and “mother” with the gender-neutral term “parent.”
The U.S. upholds the constitutional right of citizens to own firearms, making gun ownership widely accessible. In 2021 alone, 41,219 people died due to gun-related incidents, including suicides—equivalent to one death every 12 minutes. The country possesses approximately 400 million firearms, which account for 40% of the world’s privately owned guns, surpassing the U.S. population itself and comprising 42% of civilian-owned firearms globally. In 2020, firearm-related deaths surpassed car accidents, drug overdoses, and cancer, making guns the leading cause of death for individuals under 20 for the first time. More than 4,300 minors under 19 died from gun-related injuries—a 29% increase from 2019. While the legal age to purchase a firearm in the U.S. is 18, the majority of gun-related deaths among minors in 2020 involved individuals aged 14 and older.
Overturning Abortion Legalization and Resisting LGBTQ and Gender Ideologies
Among the 337 million people in the United States, religious affiliation is as follows: 76.5% identify as Christian (38% Protestant, 30% Catholic), 16.6% as non-religious, 2.6% adhere to indigenous religions, 1.9% are Muslim, 1% are Buddhist, and 0.9% are Hindu. Among Christians, evangelicals make up 26.4%, totaling approximately 89 million people.
Currently, some denominations, including the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), the United Methodist Church, and the Episcopal Church, officiate same-sex marriages and allow openly homosexual clergy. According to a 2022 report by the Arizona Christian University Cultural Research Center, only 37% of U.S. pastors hold a biblical worldview. Additionally, a 2022 Lifeway Research survey revealed that more than half of American Protestant pastors identified comfort, power and financial security, money, and social approval as the greatest idols facing the church. Theologian Albert Mohler warned that the rapidly evolving LGBTQ ideological culture would force Christians to make difficult choices, such as losing their jobs to remain faithful to their beliefs.
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating federal constitutional protection for abortion rights. As a result, abortion legislation was returned to individual state governments and legislatures. Following this ruling, reports indicated that 26 states were expected to introduce abortion bans.
In March 2022, Florida passed the Parental Rights in Education Act, prohibiting discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third-grade classrooms. Following Florida’s lead, Alabama, Ohio, Louisiana, and Texas enacted similar laws, with at least 12 states considering comparable measures.
Alabama passed legislation prohibiting medical interventions for minors undergoing gender transition and requiring individuals to use restrooms and locker rooms based on their biological sex. Florida banned transgender medical procedures for minors. The Texas Supreme Court allowed Child Protective Services(CPS) to investigate cases where children were sterilized by puberty blockers, prescribed cross-sex hormone treatments, or recommended for sex reassignment surgery. Oklahoma enacted a law requiring public school students to use restrooms according to their biological sex. Tennessee temporarily halted the Biden administration’s attempt to expand the definition of sex discrimination to include “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.” Additionally, 20 states introduced policies requiring transgender athletes to compete according to their biological sex.
Chloe Cole, a 17-year-old American detransitioner, is actively warning about the dangers of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and gender reassignment surgeries, advocating for stronger child protections. According to CBN News, former transgender woman Arianna
Armour shares her testimony on TikTok, proclaiming, “Only God can remove homosexual desires and gender dysphoria.”
》Prayer Points
1. Let’s pray that the United States, a nation founded on the pursuit of freedom rooted in biblical truth, will acknowledge and repent for turning away from that truth, following a different gospel, and enacting laws and policies that seek to please people rather than honor God. With abortion ranking as the leading cause of death and gun-related fatalities being the top cause of death among youth, let us weep and lament over the current state of the nation, fervently interceding for a revival that will bring America back to God.
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.(Galatians 1:6-10, NIV)
2. Let us praise and give thanks to the LORD for bringing repentance, reform, and transformation within American churches and among political leaders. May the witnesses of faith be equipped with the message of the cross, standing firm in prayer to tear down the powers of darkness, for our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers and authorities of this world. Instead of living for themselves, let us pray that believers will rise to establish the next generation of America in the truth, raising them up as a people of life and righteousness.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.(Ephesians 6:12-13,NIV)
