“Liechtenstein, remember the Lord your God!”

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.(Deuteronomy 8:18,NIV)

》 About Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein was formed in 1719 through the union of the Principalities of Schellenberg and Vaduz. It separated from the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, joined the German Confederation in 1815, and became fully independent in 1866. The country has been ruled by the House of Liechtenstein—nobility since the 13th century—and the nation shares its name with the ruling family. In 1867, it became a permanently neutral country, has no military, and does not impose mandatory taxes. Switzerland handles its military, foreign affairs, and finances, and Liechtenstein has its only embassy in Switzerland. Politically, it takes a center-right position and joined the United Nations in 1990. It is a constitutional monarchy, currently ruled by Prince Hans-Adam II.

Liechtenstein has a small economy but boasts one of the highest GDP per capita figures in the world—around $140,000. It is a peaceful nation with virtually no income inequality or unemployment. The economy relies heavily on industry, particularly in electronics, metalwork, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and precision machinery—largely due to modernization policies after World War II. Its well-developed banking sector makes it a hub for international finance, supported by low regulation and tax benefits for foreign companies. Interestingly, its beautifully designed stamps generate about one-third of the country’s revenue, and the post office in Vaduz is a popular destination for international tourists. Liechtenstein’s GDP per capita is approximately $207,973.

》 Scripture Focus

Deuteronomy 8:11–18(NIV)
11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,
13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,
14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions; he brought you water out of hard rock.
16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

》 Prayer Points

1. In the 1930s, Liechtenstein was a poor and feudal country, but today it has become a wealthy, modern, and refined state. As the last trace of the Holy Roman Empire remains, the royal family and natives are mostly Catholic, although they are only nominal believers. There are few foreign churches, but the number of non-religious people and Muslims is rising rapidly. Very few people feel the need to personally know Christ. Let us pray that the people of Liechtenstein, who live in comfort and often forget God, will recognize the living Lord. May they realize that nothing in this world can satisfy their souls and humbly turn to the God who gives true life and salvation.

2. After Christians from the UK, Norway, and Switzerland began organized evangelism campaign, Liechtenstein held its first—and so far only—evangelical event in 1985. Though most believers are still foreigners, the number of evangelicals is slowly growing. A campus ministry runs small morning evangelism meetings. A few royal family members have personally accepted Christ and are involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Let us pray for this small community of believers. May they not place their hope in the world but long for the eternal kingdom of God. May they fear the Lord, take up their cross, deny themselves, and follow Christ. Let us pray that they will live as true witnesses—trusting in the unseen and eternal, growing holy through the Word and prayer.

3. Let us pray that the youth of Liechtenstein—many of whom do not know God—will hear the gospel of truth and come together in faith. May wealth and comfort not blind them to spiritual need. May God open the eyes of their hearts so they can know truth and rise up as instruments of righteousness. Pray for revival in the next generation, that they would become seeds of world missions and turn Liechtenstein into a sending nation. Also, pray for migrant workers and foreigners in the land, that the gospel would reach their hearts and bring them back to God by His grace.

Urgent prayer requests around the world need your prayer!
