》 About Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua, Barbuda and Redonda are three islands that make up this nation. When Christopher Columbus arrived in 1493, the islands were home to many Arawak Indians. The British began to settle and establish colonies, and by 1667 it was officially a British colony. Sugar plantations were developed, supported by a slave system that was abolished in 1834. The islands became independent within the British Commonwealth in 1981. In 2017, they suffered significant damage from hurricanes Irma and Maria. Today, King Charles III is the head of state and Gaston Browne, who took office in 2014, is the current prime minister.
The economy of Antigua and Barbuda is primarily based on tourism. Agriculture is mostly limited to domestic production, and labor shortages in tourism and construction are occurring due to rising wages.
Antigua and Barbuda’s GDP per capita is approximately $18,000.
》 Scripture Focus
Galatians 5:16-24(NIV) 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. |

》 About Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands were named in honor of British naval officer Viscount Falkland after the British arrived there in 1690. Following a brief period of French control in 1764, the islands fell under Spanish rule and were later incorporated into Argentina after its independence in 1816. In 1833, Britain expelled Argentine residents from the islands and established a naval base. In 1982, Argentina claimed sovereignty over the islands and invaded, leading to a war with Britain, which Argentina lost. In response to Argentina’s renewed sovereignty claims, a 2013 referendum saw 99.8% of the islandFalklands’s population voted to remain under British rule. However, both countries continue to assert their claims to the islands. The Falkland Islands remain a British Overseas Territory with the British monarch as head of state, represented by a governor who exercises authority. The 2009 constitution established a self-governing government reflecting the residents’ interests, except for defense matters. In Argentina, the islands are referred to as the Malvinas.
The main industries in the Falkland Islands’ economy include sheep farming, fishing (primarily squid), revenue from fishing licenses within its waters, and ecotourism. The British military presence also provides additional revenue. Since 2010, the discovery of commercial oil deposits has opened up potential for a long-term hydrocarbon industry. The Falkland Islands’ GDP per capita is approximately $7,800.
》 Prayer Points
1. The 1982 Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands had a lasting impact on the islanders’ economic, political, and spiritual lives. In 1991, an evangelistic conference held in the Falkland Islands’ capital city led to 150 people committing to faith in Jesus. However, today, most churchgoers are nominal Christians. Christianity in the Falklandislands is represented by three main churches: Anglican, Catholic, and the Tabernacle United Free Church, which. These churches are in need of spiritual renewal and revival through the gospel. Let us pray that, amidst the ongoing territorial tensions, the people of the Falkland Islands discover new life through the gospel, leading to peace and a united pursuit of God’s kingdom.
