》 About Bermuda
Bermuda was discovered in 1515 by the Spanish explorer Juan Bermudez and became a British territory in 1684. From 1797 until the late 1950s, Bermuda served as a base for the British Army and Navy. During the American Civil War, it became a gathering place for smugglers trying to reach southern ports. From 1919 to 1933, during Prohibition, it was used to smuggle rum into the United States. Bermuda was also used as a base for the U.S. Navy and Air Force from 1941 to 1995. A 1995 referendum on independence from Britain was defeated. Bermuda remains a British territory and has a parliamentary democracy. David Burt, who took office in 2017, leads as the majority party for a five-year term.
Bermuda’s economy is one of the highest in the world in terms of per capita income. Offshore finance, especially insurance, makes up about 85% of the GDP and is the main part of the economy. Tourism, while accounting for only about 5% of GDP, is the second-largest industry and employs many locals. Almost everything in Bermuda is imported, as the island is small with limited agriculture and industry. In 2016 and 2017, the unemployment rate reached 7%, and public debt increased. The government continues to encourage foreign investment. Bermuda’s GDP per capita is approximately $81,800
》 Scripture Focus
Psalm 63:3-7,11(NIV) 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. |
》 Prayer Points
1. Bermuda has a group called “United for Change,” formed by evangelical church pastors to represent and guide the churches. This group teaches church members about the importance of prayer and encourages them to live holy lives. However, the churches have struggled to come together in unity and haven’t had much influence on this wealthy society. Let us pray that the churches in Bermuda will be changed by the message of the cross, so they may live in holiness with a hope for heaven. Pray that the churches will praise the Lord, knowing that His loving-kindness is better than life, and share the Gospel with others.
2. While Bermuda enjoys stability and wealth from tourism and finance, pray that the hearts of believers will not be turned toward money as an idol. Let us pray they will know that true satisfaction of the soul comes only through the Lord. Let us pray that God may keep the longing for His eternal kingdom alive in their hearts. Bermuda faces social issues such as the wealth gap, violence, and gang activity, especially affecting migrants from poorer Caribbean countries. Let us pray that true believers, who find their satisfaction in God, will share the Gospel with these immigrants in Bermuda.

》 About St. Pierre & Miquelon
Saint Pierre and Miquelon was first settled by the French in 1660. It officially became French territory in 1814 under the Treaty of Paris. In 1946, it became an overseas territory, and in 2003, it gained the status of an overseas collectivity of France. The President of France is Emmanuel Macron, and the local Prime Minister is Bernard Briand.
The economy of Saint Pierre and Miquelon has traditionally depended on fishing and servicing fishing boats operating off the coast of Newfoundland. However, disputes over fishing quotas with Canada and a decline in ships stopping in Saint Pierre have weakened the economy. The government hopes that expanding tourism will improve the economic outlook. To diversify the local economy, efforts are being made to develop fish farming, crab fishing, and agriculture. There is also a focus on exploring energy resources, with plans for oil test drilling. St. Pierre & Miquelon’s GDP per capita is approximately $46,200
》 Prayer Points
1. Most residents of Saint Pierre and Miquelon are Catholic. Since the Baptist and Assemblies of God churches left the area, it is known that no evangelical church remains here. Let us pray for missionaries to be sent to bring the message of the cross to these people. May God stir a thirst for truth in those who have long lived in Catholic tradition in this isolated area. Let us ask that they remember the Lord, read and hear the Word of God, and be given faith for salvation. May they come to know that Jesus Christ alone is salvation and life, and the islands become a place where people praise the Lord.
