A Nation That Provides Free Abortions and Strips Parents of Their Authority to Prevent Their Children’s Gender Transition
As a Commonwealth nation, Canada established its own constitution in 1982, solidifying its status as a sovereign country. The Canadian Human Rights Act was enacted in 1977.
Since 1988, when the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the criminal law that outlawed abortion was unconstitutional, the procedure was permitted without restrictions during pregnancy.
If you have provincial health insurance, you can get free abortion at hospitals and clinics across Canada. Since 2015, doctors have been allowed to prescribe abortion pills, and abortion pills worth 300 dollars are provided free of charge.
In 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world—and the first in the Americas—to legalize same-sex marriage. As of 2016, 0.4% of all households in Canada were same-sex households.
Canadian schools now provide education on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI).
Children are taught that gender identity is fluid and that affirming one’s chosen gender is both natural and beautiful. In 2021, in Vancouver, a father who had long opposed his daughter undergoing cross-hormone therapy for gender transition was imprisoned. He lamented, “I gave birth to a perfectly healthy girl, but now she will have a low voice, grow facial hair, and have to shave for the rest of her life. My daughter will never be able to have children. I’m not the only one. I want to shout to all parents about what’s happening in schools!”
In 2015, Canada repealed the law prohibiting physician-assisted suicide, allowing euthanasia for people suffering from unbearable pain caused by terminal illnesses such as cancer. This made Canada the sixth country in the world to legalize euthanasia.
From 2016 to 2020, 21,589 people died from euthanasia in Canada. The annual number of cases surged from 1,018 in 2016 to 7,595 in 2020—a sevenfold increase in five years. Euthanasia accounted for 2.5% of all deaths in the country by 2020, with Quebec (3.1%) and British Columbia (4%) recording the highest rates.
Furthermore, beginning in March 2023, euthanasia will be expanded to patients with mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Psychiatrist Scott Kim warned, “The severity of terminal cancer can be visibly confirmed through medical evaluation, but mental illness lacks clear diagnostic criteria, meaning decisions will almost entirely depend on a doctor’s judgment.”
In 2018, Canada became the second country in the world to legalize marijuana nationwide. The government intended to regulate the market, collect taxes, and prevent minors from using it. However, 75% of users still purchase marijuana from illegal sources. Demand has risen, with
marijuana use increasing from 14% to 17% of the population in the first year of legalization. The total sales of marijuana seeds tripled within a year.
“He Paid the Price for Worship with His Blood… He Also Did for the Next Generation!”
Canada has a population of 38.23 million, with 71.2% identifying as Christian, including 12% Protestants and 38% Catholics. The non-religious make up 17.3%, while 4.6% are Muslim, 2.7% follow indigenous religions, and 1.8% are Hindu. Among Christians, evangelicals account for 7.9% of the population, approximately 3 million people. Canadian Christianity has declined due to pluralism and secularization. The Church has lost its sense of holiness and the power of the gospel. In many churches, even words like “born again,” “gospel,” and “spirituality” have become unwelcome.
In 2019, CBN News reported that Canada was moving away from its Christian identity, citing the spread of pro-LGBTQ culture as a key reason. Public schools actively promote LGBTQ ideology as normal, sparking heated debate. Supporters claim, “Teaching about the existence of homosexuals and transgender individuals is something our society has long wanted, and it aligns with human rights laws.” However, Pastor Kevin Cavanaugh of Cedar Grove Church in Vancouver warned, “This is a frightening and serious situation. Teaching LGBTQ ideology to children is a direct attack on spiritually vulnerable young people.”
CBN News also reported that Christians are increasingly facing hostility. Alena Sadrija, an immigrant from Czechoslovakia, stated, “My friend’s daughter is bullied at school simply for being Christian. This is no different from how I was discriminated against in the Soviet Union for being the daughter of a dissident.”
In December 2021, Canada passed Bill C-4, which prohibits conversion therapy for individuals who wish to detransition from a previous gender transition. Under this law, those seeking to transition into a different gender receive full medical and legal support, while those wanting to return to their biological sex are denied all counseling, religious guidance, or treatment options. This law also broadly defines related terms, restricting Christian leaders from preaching about biblical gender identity or providing counseling based on biblical principles.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021, Pastor Jacob Reaume of Trinity Bible Chapel in Waterloo, Ontario, was fined over $80,000 for holding in-person worship services in defiance of government mandates. Despite the heavy fines, he boldly declared, “Jesus is worth it. Worship is not something we can give up on—it belongs to Him. He paid the price for worship with His blood.”
》Prayer Points
1.Canada has long legalized abortion, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, misguided sex education, and marijuana, leading to moral decline. Let us pray that the country’s leaders will acknowledge their sins before God and repent. Let us intercede in the name of Jesus to break the power of Satan, who holds dominion over rulers and authorities, so that the nation may turn back to righteousness.
Restore us to yourself, LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old.(Lamentations 5:21,NIV)
2.The Canadian Church has lost the power of the gospel due to the influence of pluralism and secularism. However, let us give thanks for the churches that continue to worship and remain faithful despite legal restrictions and government opposition. Let us pray that the churches in this land will be restored and united through the gospel of the cross, standing firm in teaching and preaching the truth, even at the cost of their lives, as they fulfill their final obedience to the LORD.
Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.(Acts 5:42,NIV)
