The 18th century was an age that opened eyes to the prayer for the completion of the Mission. Jonathan Edwards called for extraordinary prayers, rather than ordinary ones, in a united manner for the two most glorious and urgent prayer topics we could pray for: the revival of the church and the completion of the Mission. A cross-continental prayer movement including pastors from the United States and Scotland began and they prayed for revival and global evangelization for about nine years. During the same period, the Moravian community sustained a continuous prayer, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for over a hundred years, their prayer focusing solely on the glory of the second coming of Jesus Christ and the completion of missions. Reviewing Christian history, we can see a pattern of how God has worked through the Church : ‘intercessory prayer — spiritual awakening — global evangelization.’ Revival is the Church fully recovering its lost sense of God. Human renewal and reform, through effort alone, cannot fulfill the things of God. Being powerless, we must urgently seek revival from God. When we work, we work. When we pray, God works. The fulfillment of the great task of global evangelization is possible only through God’s power and wisdom. We look forward to the global cooperation of all churches in prayer for the revival of God’s kingdom and the completion of missions. |
》 Scripture Focus
Jeremiah 29: 10-13 (NIV)
10This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Zechariah 8: 13ー23 (NIV)
13Just as you, Judah and Israel, have been a curse among the nations, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.”
14This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Just as I had determined to bring disaster on you and showed no pity when your ancestors angered me,” says the Lord Almighty, 15“so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid. 16These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; 17do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,” declares the Lord.
18The word of the Lord Almighty came to me.
19This is what the Lord Almighty says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.”
20This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, 21and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the Lord and seek the Lord Almighty. I myself am going.’ 22And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord Almighty and to entreat him.”
23This is what the Lord Almighty says: “In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’”
》 Prayer Points
1. Let us pray that those who pray may first long for God alone and seek the blessing of communion by being united with Christ on the cross.
2. May the Lord grant His soldiers, those who have made the revival of God’s kingdom and the completion of the Mission their ultimate goal, a greater yearning for prayer and a spirit of unity. May the global church untie to awaken the souls of the nations and stand as watchmen crying out.
