》 About the USA
The USA began as English settlements on its territory starting in 1606. Pilgrims seeking religious freedom arrived in 1620 on the Mayflower, establishing the first colony. By 1733, Britain had formed 13 colonies along the Atlantic Coast. Conflicts arose between Native Americans, the British, and the French, leading to British dominance in North America. Tensions with Britain intensified after the 1773 Boston Tea Party, and in 1776, the USA declared independence. Through wars and expansions, including the Civil War (1861–1865), the country abolished slavery in 1870 and secured democracy.
For WWI (1917) and WWII (1940s), the USA joined the Allies, emerging as a global power. During the Cold War, it countered the Soviet Union’s influence. The end of the Cold War in 1991 left the nation as the world’s leading power, though it faced new security threats like the 9/11 attacks, which led to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The USA, a federal republic with a presidential system, has President Joe Biden in office as of 2021.
The USA is one of the most advanced economies in the world, leading in tech, medicine, aerospace, and defense. Still, it faces issues like income inequality, aging infrastructure, healthcare costs, and trade deficits. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 deeply impacted its economy, slowing down growth and increasing unemployment. The USA’s GDP per capita is approximately $60,200.
》 Scripture Focus
Haggai 2:3-9(NIV) 3. ‘Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? 4. But now be strong, O Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD. ‘Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the LORD Almighty. 5. ‘This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.’ 6. “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7. I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty. 8. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. 9. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” |
》 Prayer Points
1. The USA influences the world in many ways, including politics, economics, military power, culture, and media. Such impact can be both good and bad. On one hand, the nation provides generous aid, supports human rights, and promotes education and technology, which help make the world a better place. On the other hand, it can also lead to cultural imperialism, selfishness, and corporate greed. Let us pray that God uses the country for a positive influence, to bring people together and fill His temple with glory.
2. About 78% of the US population are Christians, with nearly 100 million being evangelicals. However, the original biblical faith has changed, showing signs of materialism and a lack of morality. Even in churches, we see selfishness and pride. Deep-rooted individualism and a false sense of respect lead to indifference and isolation. Let’s pray for a transformation through the cross of Jesus, so that people can have new life. Many large churches are growing, but they need to focus on returning to biblical values instead of chasing secular trends. Let’s pray for a revival that brings greater glory to the gospel.
3. The spiritual heritage of the USA is under attack from secular humanists, New Age beliefs, and the LGBTQ+ community. These groups use laws and media to mock and criticize Christians, trying to erase any Christian influence in public life. While they claim to support free speech, they reject Christian views. The concept of tolerance often leads to denying the Truth and accepting anti-Christian values. Meanwhile, Christianity faces challenges from false beliefs about homosexuality, universal salvation, and evolution. Some denominations accept same-sex marriages and openly LGBTQ+ leaders. Let us pray that the glory of Christ fills the USA through churches that faithfully follow the gospel.
