》 About the USA
The USA began as English settlements on its territory starting in 1606. Pilgrims seeking religious freedom arrived in 1620 on the Mayflower, establishing the first colony. By 1733, Britain had formed 13 colonies along the Atlantic Coast. Conflicts arose between Native Americans, the British, and the French, leading to British dominance in North America. Tensions with Britain intensified after the 1773 Boston Tea Party, and in 1776, the USA declared independence. Through wars and expansions, including the Civil War (1861–1865), the country abolished slavery in 1870 and secured democracy.
For WWI (1917) and WWII (1940s), the USA joined the Allies, emerging as a global power. During the Cold War, it countered the Soviet Union’s influence. The end of the Cold War in 1991 left the nation as the world’s leading power, though it faced new security threats like the 9/11 attacks, which led to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The USA, a federal republic with a presidential system, has President Joe Biden in office as of 2021.
The USA is one of the most advanced economies in the world, leading in tech, medicine, aerospace, and defense. Still, it faces issues like income inequality, aging infrastructure, healthcare costs, and trade deficits. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 deeply impacted its economy, slowing down growth and increasing unemployment. The USA’s GDP per capita is approximately $60,200.
》 Scripture Focus
Haggai 2:20-23(NIV) 20. The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month: 21. “Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I will shake the heavens and the earth. 22. I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother. 23. “‘On that day,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” |
》 Prayer Points
1. Church life, worship, and leadership need a big change away from just getting favor with others. Many pastors act more like CEOs than shepherds. Worship and sermons can feel more like performances than true fellowship. This has led many Christians to seek new forms of church, like house churches, or to practice their faith alone. Let us pray that church culture and leaders become a pathway, not a barrier, to building a mature body of Christ. May leaders like Haggai and Zerubbabel rise up to guide the church and the nation according to God’s Word.
2. In America, there are 31 groups with over a million people each. Let us pray that those from Mexico, China, the Philippines, India, Colombia, Haiti, Cuba, and Vietnam hear the gospel, find salvation, and form new churches. There are 1.7 million Muslim immigrants gathering in over 1,200 mosques. Pray for Christians to be sent to share the gospel with them. Through Messianic churches and groups like “Jews for Jesus,” may the gospel reach the 5.2 million Jews in America, so they can also find salvation. The nation has many ethnic groups, including immigrants, workers, refugees, and undocumented individuals. This is a field ripe for harvest that only keeps growing. Let’s pray that the country obeys the call to share the gospel with all nations, as stated in Matthew 24:14. When that happens, God will shake the heavens and the earth, overthrow kingdoms, and destroy the powers of many nations. Let us pray that churches and mission organizations in the US boldly share the gospel.
3. About a quarter of Catholics in the US are Pentecostal, and this number rises to 50% among Hispanic Catholics. Although Catholicism is influential in the country, it faces challenges, such as scandals involving priests and a decline in church attendance. Let’s pray for a reform in American Catholicism that truly believes in the cross of Christ. The American church has the strength to grow through united prayer and obedience. Prayer networks and movements continue to grow, like the Mission America Coalition, the National Pastor’s Prayer Network, Lydia Fellowship, Seek God for the City, See You At The Pole, and 24/7 prayer movements. Let us pray that the Lord’s power shakes the US and all nations through prayers, bringing revival and completing the mission of God’s kingdom.
