“Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD”
[Dec.13.2021]The centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) candidate Olaf Scholz will lead the new German coalition government, succeeding former German Chancellor Angela Merket’s 16 years term at the helm, the leader of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
The German Bundestag held a plenary session on the 8th (local time) and elected the Social Democrat candidate Olaf Scholz as the 9th chancellor.
He was elected chancellor with 395 votes in favour of 736 MPs where 416 lawmakers belong to the party, ‘Traffic Light (SPD-Red, Liberal Democrats-Yellow, Green Party-Green) coalition government’ led by him.
When House Speaker Barbel Bas announced the results of the vote, lawmakers greeted the new Chancellor with loud applause. Former Chancellor Merkel also applauded.
Asked by parliament speaker Barbel Bas whether he accepted the election, he said, “Yes”. After that, he moved to the Presidential Palace and will be appointed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, before returning to the Bundestag to take the oath of office.
Merkel was in the Bundestag to watch the vote, seating herself in the section reserved for guests of the house. Because she is no longer a member of the Bundestag, she cannot enter the plenary hall.
All the lawmakers stood to give a warm round of applause to Chancellor Merkel, who was introduced at the opening ceremony of the day.
With the inauguration of Chancellor Scholz, the 17-member German cabinet will also be appointed by the president and begins their term of office.
For the first time in German history, chancellor Scholz nominated women for the interior, foreign, and defense minister to form a cabinet of equal numbers of eight women and eight men, excluding himself.
The most urgent task of the traffic light cabinet is to respond to the fourth spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) which seems to have the highest numbers in history.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of deaths from Covid-19 in Germany on the previous day reached 527. It is the first time in 10 months since February that the daily death toll exceeded 500.
Meanwhile, Germany, located in central Europe, has a brilliant history of being the home of Protestantism through the Reformation and in the 1960s, 97% of Western Germany’s population were Christians, but today it continues to decline to 65%. Evangelicals also make up less than 1.6 million, or 2% of the population. (Source: Prayer24365, Yonhap News Edited).
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favour and honor; no good thing does he withhold form those whose walk is blameless. LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you. LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you. (Psalms 84:11-12)
Dear God, we bless and pray for chancellor Scholz, who has been elected as the new leader of the German government and the nation. We pray for politicians to rely on God Almighty to take care of the people and please let them run the country honestly. Above all, please allow the heritage of faith that You have given to this land to recover its vitality and become a channel through which the good news flows to Europe and all nations.
