“If you obey my commands, I will bring them to the place I have chosen.”
[Dec.06.2022] Two-thirds of migrants around the world who fled their hometowns due to disasters, conflicts or famine are “internally displaced people” who did not cross borders, and it was pointed out that governments and international organizations should cooperate to support their self-reliance.
Luca Renda, head of the team on the migrant issue at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), said at a briefing held at the United Nations office in Geneva last month.
Noting that as of the end of 2020, more than 100 million people were displaced from their homes around the world, Renda explained, “two-thirds of these are internally displaced people living in their country. According to Renda, there are 6.5 million internally displaced people in Ukraine alone after Russia’s invasion.
According to a recent report by UNDP, one-third of internally displaced people worldwide are unemployed, two-thirds do not have enough money to live on, and one-third have health issues.
“80% of internally displaced people live in low-income or vulnerable countries,” said Renda.
“The vulnerability of countries experiencing disasters, famines and conflicts is both a result and a cause of internally displaced people,” he said.
UNDP believes that the problem of internally displaced people can be solved only when the international communities, governments, and local communities work together. Governments should refine institutions and laws to enable internally displaced people to integrate into local communities, and local communities should open opportunities for displaced groups so they may participate in decision-making, UNDP advised.
In addition, he added that more than just humanitarian aid for the displaced people is required, and the local community need to also work together to create conditions for self-reliance while creating and promoting a development agenda. (Source: Yonhap News).
But if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.’ They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. (Nehemiah 1:9-10)
God, please remember the internally displaced migrants around the world, and protect them.
Pray that the nations going thru conflicts, disasters, and the feminine come to You and seek You and admit the fact that they cannot resolve the problems they have with their wisdom and strength. May they honour You and keep Your commandments, thus experiencing Your favour and grace. May the local churches serve and preach the gospel to the people who are suffering from losing their hometown and shelter. May they find eternal hope and shelter in you.
