[Sep.01.2022] As abortion bans become a reality in the United States, Google has decided to show on maps and search functions hospitals where abortion services are provided. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced the plan of “distributing an update to make it easier for people to find places that provides these [medical] services.”
Google explained that in the future, a sign of ‘Abortion is offered’ will appear where abortion service is provided, and a sign of ‘Abortion may not be offered’ will be displayed where it is unclear if abortion services are provided. Google will display the sign based on the information either directly inquire at the hospital or based on externally verified data.
Lara Rubin, a spokesperson, said Google has been working on it for months. Earlier, in the United States, since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling in June, which established abortion as a legal right, each state is different in its position regarding the abortion ban.
Google announced a policy to protect the right to abortion, and last month it also announced that it would delete the history of location records of visits to abortion-related facilities.
On the 15th, about 650 Alphabet employees sent a petition to Google CEO Sundar Pichai to remove search results of the ‘Crisis Pregnancy Center’. The Crisis Pregnancy Center is a non-profit organization that advises women not to choose abortion, and the petition pointed out that the center’s search results could mislead women seeking abortion information. Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:19,28,32)
God, please scold the evil deeds of large corporations that provide services to those who want to have an abortion to easily locate hospitals. Let the lost hearts of those who hate to have God in their hearts, claim abortion as their right, and advocate sin realize what God has made plain to them about God. May the church awaken and pray before the opportunity given again by the Lord, the Lord of Life, so that the souls of the earth may be saved from eternal sin and serve the LORD.
