“The Lord will keep the needy safe and will protect them forever. “
[Jan.20.2023] 5 UN organizations including United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that acute malnutrition is threatening the lives of more than 30 million children in the 15 countries hardest hit by the food crisis.
Concerningly, 8 million of these children are under life-threatening malnutrition, the agencies revealed in a joint release.
The 15 countries facing food shortages are 12 African countries, including Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, and Burkina Faso, Afghanistan in Central Asia, Haiti in the Caribbean, and Yemen in the Middle East.
UN agencies said, “The soaring food prices in these countries exacerbate food shortages, and the resulting malnutrition among children leads to a vicious cycle that causes diseases.” “If we don’t come up with measures to control the situation then the situation is likely to intensify.”
Emergency funding to help the countries concerned are requested to the international community as “acute malnutrition in children can lead to death and permanent damage to their growth and development throughout their lives.” (Source: Yonhap News)
“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked. (Psalms 12:5,7)
God, may You provide food to the over 30 million children suffering from the vicious cycle of malnutrition and disease around the world. We confess that the gospel is the answer to the countries suffering from food shortages seeing that these countries are exacerbated by long civil wars and soaring food prices. May You bring the churches of all nations and the international community together to help the next generation in the affected areas. May the children protected by Your grace praise You forever.
