“Return to God, you may love the Lord and hold fast to Him.”
[Apr.14.2023] According to a new report, Spain’s no-religion population has reached an all-time high, the British Christian Today (CT) reported. The report, recently released by the Ferrer i Guardia Foundation, said that the number identified themselves as no-religion reached 39.3% of the population in 2022, up from 27.5% in 2019 before the pandemic began.
In response to the findings, the foundation said, “The pandemic has accelerated the secularization process in Spain.” The number of non-religious people rose again to 57.9% of respondents aged 25 to 34 and 60.3% of respondents aged 18 to 24, higher among young Spaniards.
The number of non-Christians has increased almost every year in Spain since 1980 when it accounted for only 8.5% of the traditionally Catholic country’s population. Those who identify themselves as religious people are also religious people who do not practice their religion now, the report said.
In 2000, 60% of the respondents who said they were religious practised faith in their lives, while 40% did not. The situation has changed dramatically, with 64.2% of Spaniards who said they were religious by 2022 saying they did not practice their faith.
The foundation said, “The number of non-religious people has increased significantly since March 2020 and the COVID-19 lockdown. This trend continued even after the end of the health crisis,” he said. (Source: Christian Daily).
You will again obey the LORD and follow all his commands I am giving you today. Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. You may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. (Deuteronomy 30:8, 11, 20)
God, may You awaken the dull spirit of those who are rationalizing their unwillingness to have the Lord as their master. They even think their attitude is fine. This trend is worsened since the time of the pandemic in Spain. Pray that they would realize that turning away from God, the master of life, is not a small matter and return to the place where they love You, the giver of life. I pray that the church, which has the vitality of the gospel in Spain, will first obey the word of the Lord, so that the joy and hope thereof will be evident and that the people of this land will be revived.
