“Let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
[Jun.13.2023] The Seoul Queer Culture Festival Organizing Committee (Organizing Committee), which will not be able to use Seoul Plaza this year, announced its plan to hold the “24th Seoul Queer Parade” in Euljiro. Despite the decision not to allow the use of Seoul Plaza, Organizing Committee seems to be forcing the event to go ahead somehow.
At a press conference held at the Arumdrie Hall of the People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy on the 7th, the Organizing Committee said it would hold a queer parade in Euljiro 2-ga, Seoul, on the 1st of next month. The route starts from Samil-daero then goes through Myeongdong Station – Sogong-ro – Seoul Plaza – Jonggak Station then returns to Samil-daero.
The Organizing Committee completed the submission application of the assembly to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Namdaemun and Jongno Police Stations on the 1st. 64 people involved stood in line for 89 hours at three police stations to submit the application as a matter of the 1st in the queue.
The Organizing Committee said, “We chose to march through major roads including Seoul Plaza because it is the most watched by the largest number of people,” adding, “More than 50,000 people will participate in the parade alone and 150,000 people will participate in this year’s festival, including the Queer Film Festival.”
Considering that the 1st of next month falls on a Saturday, it is likely that families’ and couples’ outings will be affected by traffic jams. In addition to this, there are concerns that the costumes with extreme exposure will be seen by children passing by.
Prior to this, on the 3rd of last month, the Open Seoul Plaza Operation Citizens’ Committee (Citizens’ Committee) decided to disallow the Organizing Committee’s application to hold the event at Seoul Plaza. The scheduled date for the Queer Parade overlapped with the “Youth and Young People Restoration Concert.” The Citizens’ Committee submitted this as an agenda for the square management committee and judged the “Youth and Young Restoration Concert” as a priority and refused to allow the Organizing Committee’s use of it.
“The Queer Festival is not a general cultural event but has the intention of passing the anti-discrimination law,” said Pastor Joo Joshep, spokesman for the National Convention Against Homosexuality Queer Festival. “I hope you will attend Youth and Young Restoration Concert on the 1st of next month to help protect healthy gender values and family views,” he said.
The Seoul Queer Culture Festival has been held since 2000. It was held at Seoul Plaza for the first time in 2015 and was suspended for three years due to Covid 19 and resumed in July last year.
The Queer Parade, which marches around Seoul Plaza, has aroused controversy every year with its decadent and sensational costumes and behaviour. (Source: Daily Good News)
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. (Romans 13:12-14)
God, please rebuke the Organizing Committee for pushing ahead with the queer festival. Help them to put on the armour of light and get rid of the work of darkness that is from obscenity and lust. Please destroy the lies that rationalize homosexuality as a human right and culture. May You lead the people participating in the event to repent and follow the path of righteousness by knowing Jesus Christ. Please stop the anti-discrimination bill promoted by the National Assembly, and may the believers uplift the torch of prayers in Korea. So that Korea be restored as a holy priesthood nation before You.
