“The world and its lusts will pass away, but the will of God will stand forever.”
On the 27th, Thailand’s lower house of parliament approved a marriage equality bill aimed at allowing same-sex marriage, the first in Southeast Asia. The bill, which grants equal rights to marriage partners regardless of gender, was finally passed with 400 of the 415 members present in favour, 10 against, 2 abstaining, and 3 absent.
This bill revises the Civil Act and the Commercial Act to change the words ‘man and woman’ and ‘husband and wife’ to ‘individual’ and ‘marital partner.’ However, the House of Representatives did not approve the inclusion of the word ‘parents’ other than ‘father and mother.’
Thailand’s current law only allows marriage between a man and a woman, but if passed, this bill would guarantee full legal, financial and medical rights to same-sex couples.
The bill will come into effect once it passes the Senate and receives royal assent. If this bill is passed, Thailand will become the first country in Southeast Asia and the third country in Asia to pass such a bill, following Taiwan and Nepal.
Dhanupon Punnakantha, a spokesman for the ruling Pheu Thai party and drafter of the marriage equality bill, told parliament on the day that the amendments are for “everyone in Thailand” regardless of gender and will not deprive heterosexual couples of their rights.
He said, “This bill seeks to return rights to the LGBTQ group. We are not giving them rights. “This is a basic right that this group has lost.”
Thailand has been trying to pass marriage equality laws for decades, and the new government led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who took office last year, has made marriage equality one of its main goals. The government sponsors events for LGBTQ people and is actively promoting Thai tourism to homosexuals from around the world.
LGBTQ is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer, and refers to a sexuality that deviates from God’s creation principles. (Source: FOX NEWS, Prayer 24/365 Headquarters Comprehensive)
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:16-17)
God, may You reign over Thailand and prevent the bill from going into effect, which distorts the truth in the name of equality and supports homosexuality rather than supporting families permitted by Your creation principles. May You rebuke the rebellious and corrupt Thai government that seeks to gain tourism profits from homosexuals around the world. May You destroy Satan’s plan that encourages the lust and greed of the flesh. May the churches become a holy channel of the gospel so that many souls will be saved and find true value and hope in Your Word.
