“The Lord gives them their food at the proper time and satisfy the desires of every living thing”
[Sep.27.2021]In Yemen, a country that has been suffering from a long civil war, the humanitarian crisis has reached an even more serious level, the AP reported on Sep 23 (local time).
UNICEF reported that 11.3 million Yemeni children need humanitarian assistance for their survival.
Henrietta Fore, head of the U.N. children’s agency UNICEF, said, “2.3 million children under five years old are acutely malnourished and nearly 400,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition are at risk of imminent death.
“In Yemen, one child dies every 10 minutes from a preventable cause, including malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases, “she said.
Janez Lenarcic, the EU commissioner for crisis management, said,” Food and fuel should be allowed into the country” and that ” the humanitarian crisis in Yemen is unprecedented and severe.”
The civil war in Yemen, which is regarded as a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, has been going on for seven years since it started at the end of 2014.
In 2015, the conflict escalated when Saudi Arabia and the U.S intervened to prevent Iran’s influence in Yemen.
More than 13,000 people have died, and more than 4 million refugees have been displaced so far.
Saudi Arabia has blocked major ports to prevent the flow of supplies to the rebel Houthis.
WFP has warned that food aid to 5 million Yemenis could be halted by the end of the year as funds run out due to reduced donations.
David Beasley, executive director of the World Food Program, said that although $3.85 billion (about 4.5 trillion won) was needed to help Yemen this year, however, was still underfunded by around 1 billion (about 1.1 trillion won). (Source: Yeonhap News)
The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. (Psalms 145:15-16)
Father God, we pray for Your grace over Yemen that is undergoing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the prolonged civil war. Pray for the compassion from the international community for this land suffering from malnutrition and diseases and provide them with the financial aid they need. Pray for Saudi Arabia to lift the sanction so that food and fuel may be supplied to Yemen. Pray that churches of nations cry out to the LORD, who satisfies the desires of those who hope in the LORD, so that the civil war in Yemen may end soon.
